Common questions
Does the app work offshore with no signal?
Yes. The app downloads a small daily pack (about 70 KB) with the chart, water temperature, chlorophyll, hotspots, buoys and forecast. Open the app once at the dock with signal and everything works offshore. GPS works without cell service. The radio and fish reports need a connection; posts wait in an outbox and send when you're back in range.
How do I get the long-range offshore pack?
With KnotAByte Pro, go to Today → Long-range trip → Download for my trip before you leave. It stays on your phone until you update or delete it. Turn on the chart with Layers → Baja long-range chart.
How do I get hotspots onto my chartplotter?
With KnotAByte Pro, tap the share button in the Spots tab or the fish finder list and choose Share waypoints (GPX). Save the file to a microSD card (for Garmin, in a folder named Garmin/GPX) and import it on the plotter. Navionics and most chart apps open the file straight from the share sheet. Hotspots move with the water, so export again before each trip.
How do I manage or cancel KnotAByte Pro?
Subscriptions are handled by Apple. On your iPhone open Settings → your name → Subscriptions, or in the app go to Settings → Pro → Manage subscription. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid the next charge.
I bought Pro but the app doesn't show it.
In the app go to Settings → Pro → Restore purchases, signed in with the same Apple ID you bought with.
I'm not getting alerts.
Check that notifications are on for KnotAByte in iOS Settings, that you're signed in, and that at least one alert is switched on in Settings → Alerts. The Send a test alert button there tells you if anything is wrong.
How do I delete my account?
In the app: Settings → Account → Delete account. It removes your account, messages, reports and crew memberships. Deleting the app alone doesn't delete your account.
Are the hotspots where the fish are?
They're habitat scores: where water temperature, temperature breaks, color and structure line up for each species. They're a place to start looking, not confirmed fish. KnotAByte is not for navigation; use official charts and forecasts.
